Thanksgiving Dinner Chance Drawing Report

“The Thanksgiving Dinner drawing was a great success. We have $1,205.00 in hand and $45.00 owed. We should clear well over $1,100.00 after expenses. THANKS to everyone who participated for your hard work.”-Dr. P

Top ticket sellers:
Mike Schmitz, the president, sold 24.
Rhonda Pickett sold 21 tickets.
Jeff Thompson and Patricia Deanda-Likes, both sold 20 tickets.
John Harrison sold 19.

The Cheesecake Factory donated a $50.00 gift certificate for the top seller. We also have a $10.00 Starbucks gift certificate for 2nd place.

Fall Festival

Fall Festival was held today on main campus. Advisor Dr. Prescott and president Michael Schmitz sold coffee and hot chocolate to warm up students as they attended the festivities. This also gave them a chance to tell people more about who we are and what we do.

Our Thanksgiving dinner chance drawing was held today in Pucher LeMay, room 346. The winner was Bennett A. Rowland. Bennett is an instructor of welding at WakeTech. Congratulations to Bennett!

Michelle Holder has made a bulletin board for Phi Beta Lambda. It is on the wall outside Ms. Bonk's office in Holding Hall 108 D. If you are on Main Campus, go by and see it. Way to go Michelle!

Fall Leadership Conference, Rocky Mount


PHi Beta Lambda held it's annual Fall Leadership Conference in Rocky Mount this year on the weekend of November 2nd-4th. Our chapter had several students attend and participate in several seminars such as "Interviewing Skills", "Starting a business", "Professional dress" and "Running for state office". In addition to twenty-two people receiving awards for being members of PBL, we also received the following awards:
-An award for participating in the "Non trivia" team
-3rd largest Chapter membership in the central region
-2007-2008 Gold Star Chapter Award
Attendee Anjennette Michelle Holder exclaimed, "I had a great time. It was at the conference that I gained more passion for PBL. Most of my ideas came from talking to different people and networking with other members. I can’t wait for the next one."

Thanksgiving dinner chance drawing

This year, our chapter is conducting our first ever Thanksgiving Chance Dinner Drawing. Members of our chapter will be selling chance-drawing tickets to students, falculty and the surrounding community, for a chance to win a complete Thanksgiving meal, cooked by our very own, Dr. Prescott. Enough to feed a family of 12, the dinner will include a brined and roasted turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, two homemade pies and other succulent side items. Yum!

Please see a member today to purchase your chance to win this delicous meal delivered right to your own front door on Thanksgiving day! Tickets are only $5 each. If you have family plans, you may elect to have us deliver the meal to the Raleigh Rescue Mission.

New Professionsal Development members!


Members of Phi Beta Lambda were honored to meet with Wake Tech President President Dr. Scott and executive vice-president, Jeremy Mitchell, to extend an invitation for each faculty member to join the professional division of our chapter of Phi Beta Lambda.

Parlimentarian Procedure workshops

Dr. Prescott, advisor for PBL, led a parliamentarian procedure workshop for two sessions. The first met on October 31st and focused on being an effective member of a group or club. The second session met on November 7th and focused on being an officer. This seminar was sponsored by the members of PBL. In both sessions, students were taught by Dr. Prescott, among many other items, how to make a motion, propose an amendment, serve as a presiding officer, and object to a decision of the chair. Information was also provided on the National Association of Parliamentarians’ membership exam and how to join the Wake Technical Parliamentarian Procedure team. Below is a link:

Talent show

Wake Tech’s “We Got Talent” show took place on main campus. PBL was there to sell refreshments as a fundraiser. Popcorn, provided by the college, was sold at 100% profit and candy and soft drinks, were both sold at 50% profit.

2007 Triangle Heart Walk

The triangle community came together today to raise funds to fight the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers—heart disease and stroke. Phi Beta Lambda members raised money to support the American Heart Association and walked in their honor. According to local news affiliate, WRAL, The Triangle Heart Walk raised more than $815,000. A heartfelt thanks to all who participated! Please visit their site to support them in the future.

PBL ran an information booth at the main campus location, for Facts and Snacks. This event is held annually and is a chance for all clubs and organizations to meet members of the student body and inform them of who they are and what they are about.
